Serum Separator Tube (SST) — A type of blood collection tube used in laboratory testing. It contains a gel that separates the serum from the blood cells when centrifuged (spun), making it easier to extract and analyze the serum portion. SST tubes are typically identified by their gold or red-and-gray speckled tops and are one of the most commonly used tube types in diagnostic lab testing.
